Photography Proof Of Concept Ideas
4 MayFor my photography project I’m still pretty undecided. Open ended projects allow you to brainstorm for overwhelming and excessive amounts of time and this obviously has its great aspects and its less great aspects. The important part of digital storytelling really involves the fact that just because you can do something digitally… it does not mean that you should. So often these days people just use digital methods because they can and don’t stop to think about the pros and cons of text versus visuals versus sound or some combination. Journalists so rarely take advantage of the strengths inherent in these mediums and so I am trying my damnedest to figure out how to take advantage of photography.
Obviously, this has led me to ideas involving stories about sunsets or stories involving puppies and, while these are both potentially great ideas, they aren’t exactly news worthy.
As previously stated, I still haven’t completed decided but I have thought about the possibility of reporting on a live music concert taking place this weekend that I’d been thinking of going to. A concert would definitely have some beautiful aspects worth saving visually.
I have also contemplated trying to catalogue the life of a transgender individual. Transgender issues and politics are incredibly important and are only gaining in momentum. Often these stories are reported incorrectly or without regard to the person who the story is depicting. Often these stories are not reported on at all.
I also have thought about how fun it would be to shoot a story about recycling. It would follow the life of a soda pop bottle. It would show it in the store, it would show it being enjoyed and then it would show the correct way to dispose of it. This story would be especially fun because you could include pictures of nature to hit home the emotions and because you can actually teach people or remind people of something quick and simple that directly affects the world we are living in.
Any of these stories would be interesting stories that would do well visually. They obviously bring different positive aspects while having specific problems that would have to be dealt with. If anyone out there has any great ideas for me… they would be much, much appreciated. Having someone else contemplate a story is always priceless assistance. Especially considering the fact that you are my audience.
